September Bus trip - Emu Heaven

23 Lucky Redcliffe Seniors boarded the coach and headed off for a day out and about.

A pleasant drive via Kingsford Smith Drive, through to the Legacy tunnel, into a minor traffic jam near the new Jindalee bridge construction and away out past Ipswich, Amberley Air Force Base and to a picnic area near Willowbank raceway for a most enjoyable morning tea.  Yummy brownies and a variety of biscuits – love ‘em.

Onto Emu Heaven – the owner refers to his place as Emu Haven.  More than 1800 emus of every size.  Little stripy chicks, lots of teenagers, and of course all the BIG ones that produce the eggs, oil, feathers etc. etc.

The process from egg to saleable produce all happens on site.  After a quick visit to the shop, we then climbed back onto the coach and headed to Rosewood for lunch.  Some of us just had to have Bangers and Mash.  Regular country pub serving.  Unexpected, delicious dessert, back on the coach and travel to a small nature reserve in Ipswich.  Birds, bearded dragon lizards, wallabies, turtles.  All these places some of us simply do not know exist.

On the way home we again came near to the Amberley Air Force Base.  Guess what??  The Globemaster massive transport aircraft was up doing a flyby.  What a sight.  So very enormous.

Easy drive back to Redcliffe complete with a few quiet snores from the back of the coach.
