TRIP TO ALBERT RIVER WINERY

On Friday the 16 March 33 of us headed off to visit the Albert River Winery and the weather was very good to us with a beautiful sunny day. We travelled down the Mount Lindsay Hwy to Beaudesert for morning tea in the Lions Bicentennial park.

After a lovely morning tea we headed off to the winery where we were met by Yvonne who gave us a tour of the place, she explained the history of Auchenflower house ballroom and Tamborine house which both date back to the 1800’s. The suburb of Auchenflower was named after the house as was the village of Tamborine. We also sat in Taabinga Chapel – the original Lutheran Chapel of Kingaroy which was used by the Bjelke-Petersen. After some interesting stories about the various buildings we watched Yvonne give a sheepdog display as well as some whip cracking. Also one of our members had a go at whip cracking.

We then enjoyed a lovely 2 course lunch on the veranda of the ballroom. After lunch we headed home about 2:45pm arriving in Redcliffe around 4:45 due to the traffic. Great day had by all.
